Choosing an engagement ring is one of the most exciting moments for a couple
and care should be taken in choosing a reputable dealer. We know that it can be
difficult choosing a ring online, rather than in person so we make every effort to
assist you in your shopping endeavor.
When choosing an engagement ring, there are certain qualities that you want
to research including the four C's: cut, clarity, color and carat. Each of these
characteristics is defined more below.
The Four C's of Diamonds
Since the diamond is inexplicably the most expensive part of the ring, you will
want to choose one that is within your price range. Diamonds are priced on how
well they rate in the following categories:
- Cut – There are many different cut of diamonds including Marquis,
Emerald, Princess and Circle Round cuts. The price of the diamond is
affected by the cut with princess cuts ranging on the more expensive side.
- Clarity – the clarity of the diamond is how well it looks. Are there major or
minor inclusions in the diamond or can you barely see any imperfections?
The better the clarity, the more the ring will cost. However, the higher
the level of clarity, the better the sparkles when the light hits your
engagement ring. The clarity scale of a diamond goes from flawless to I-
3, meaning that the ring is heavily included and the imperfections are very
visible to the eye.
- Color – The color of a diamond can range from a yellow to colorless.
Color scales go from D through Z with DEF being colorless in nature and
XYZ being beyond yellow in color.
- Carat Weight – The carat weight simply refers to how much the carat
weighs. Carat weight is broken down into quarter carats. The more the
carat weighs, the higher the price tag on the engagement ring.
Choosing an engagement ring based upon the four Cs can help you ensure
that you have a high quality ring. Some people choose to look for rings that
are simply higher in carat weight rather than pay attention to the cut or other
characteristics of the ring. There is simply no right way to choose a ring, other
than to educate yourself on what the specifications mean. Ultimately, it is the look
that you like best that will decide which engagement ring you decide to purchase
for your partner. | |
